Let Me Count The Ways

I came across this on a UKIP website. In essence it says that Jacques Barrot recently called for "citizenship in the fullest sense of the word" by introducing EU birth and death certificates. I couldn't find anything about it on Barrot's ec.europa.euwebsite but perhaps I searched more in hope than in expectation.

A European Union Sonnet, abused by me from a poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning:

How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways.

It will take more than political parties to defeat the EU; it's going to take people.

It's All Falling Apart

With Parliament in recess until October and MPs working unstintingly for the benefit of their constituents in the meantime, it should be fairly quiet and is usually known as the Silly Season as the msm scratch around for something to fill their pages.

However, life under Labour continues to roll downhill under the momentum of twelve years of socially-engineered policies and inadequate economic oversight.

The Treasury has published statistics which give the lie to Brown's spending figures. Despite the denials, spin and gloss he spouts every time he opens his mouth, the hard facts have finally proved him a liar at the despatch box and vindicated Cameron's questioning at PMQs.

The Telegraph highlights cuts in education.
The Guardian highlights cuts in Arts.
The Times highlights cuts in building projects.

This is just the beginning as Gordon goes through the looking glass and juggles figures like the White Queen on a chessboard. Perhaps we could make a few pounds by selling off some surveillance cameras to the highest bidder - buyer dismantles & collects.

Jack Straw: raping democracy

In response to the MPs expenses scandal, the government has introduced a Parliamentary Standards Bill, purportedly to stamp out corruption.

Refreshingly, the first draft of the bill defines a statutory requirement for politicians to tell the truth in Parliament, or face legal challenge, potentially resulting in a jail term.

Very sensible. Truth has been conspicuous by its absence in the past 12 years, lies being accepted almost as normal with no penalty attaching.

Too sensible for Jack Straw, though. This raper of democracy, who takes every opportunity to curtail our freedoms by sneaking trojan horse clauses into new 'justice' bills, is campaigning behind the scenes to cull the truth requirement from the bill.

Straw is the man who shook Mugabe's hand, his excuse for which being that it was dark in the room and he couldn't see Mugabe's face. He and his fellow Marxists don't want to live under the same rules that they devise for the rest of us.

The political crisis we've been living through, which was the catalyst for the drive to 'clean up politics', might have taught our contemptible politicians that we've had enough of their sleaze.

Oh, they "get it" alright. It's just that Jack Straw and his ilk know they can get away with raping democracy because we, the people, don't do anything about it, save from complaining to our MPs.

We need to rediscover our passion for peaceful but determined demonstration - en masse.
