The Albion Alliance: Cross-party independence alliance

Wednesday, 11 November 2009

The Albion Alliance was launched today, to bring together people from all parties who want a referendum on the EU.

Ian Parker-Joseph explains why we need the alliance:
Numerous opinion polls tell us that 70% of the voting public want a referendum on the EU.

Over the past 40 years Britain has been led, against the wishes of its people, into a political union by a discredited political elite without so much as a single vote on the issue from the public. The last time the public were consulted, in 1975, it was for a simple trading partnership called the EEC. No-one has agreed to a political union where the law of this land will be made by unelected officials in a far off land.

We believe that the forthcoming General Election should be the catalyst that forces that referendum. A referendum that simply asks the public:
“Should the United Kingdom remain in a political union with the other member states of the EU. Yes or No?”
In order to force this issue to the top of the agenda, not in another 5 years, but as a priority for any incoming government, we will be asking every PPC to unreservedly commit to putting the country before party by signing up to the principles laid out in this Albion Alliance.

We are not asking any PPC to abandon his or her own party, nor to set up a party in opposition, but to simply put the people whose votes they are asking for, and their country, before all else, irrespective of the Party Whip.

When they become a signatory to the Albion Alliance, they are pledging to force this referendum, they will be asked to carry the Albion Alliance logo on their campaign website and literature, so that you the voter will know that if you vote for this candidate, they have pledged to granting the public that all important voice on the future of these Islands, a United Kingdom, a land once known as Albion.

The public will then know when they are making that all important decision on who to vote for, a vote for a PPC who is pledged to the Albion Alliance means a candidate who is committed to a referendum, where we hope to find a majority of A.A. MP’s across all political parties once the election is over. Such an alliance would also consider policies that are likewise mutually compatable and can be agreed with the members.

I have already made that pledge, and I urge you to write to your current MP, and then to all the PPC’s intending to stand for election in your constituency urging them to make the pledge to the A.A., The Albion Alliance.

Thank you.

Was There Fraud In The Referendum Count?

Monday, 5 October 2009

I am not sure if there was fraud, but Scunnert has put up these videos that may cast a doubt over the controls in place.

As the Tap Blog has already covered, but the police were very keen to ensure that monitors not be allowed to count the number of people turning up to vote.  So what checks were in place to ensure this would be a fair vote?

It smells a little fishy.

Cross-Posted as it deserves a big audience.

New Franco-German Axis

Thursday, 1 October 2009

Hot on the heels of Tuesday's news that the Lisbon Treaty will be implemented no matter what the outcome of the Irish referendum comes the news that France & Germany have agreed a secret accord. The drive is towards a two-tier EU and there's the possibility of a reciprocal placing of Ministers in their Cabinets (imagine a German or French Minister sitting in Brown's Cabinet!)

Joschka Fischer, a former German Foreign Minister, said the Franco-German axis  had to come into its own again whatever the fate of the Lisbon treaty: “The centre of gravity of Europe can only be Paris and Berlin.”

Sarkozy withdrew his backing for Blair as President of the EU some months ago but it now seems to be official.  The front-runners being considered are Felipe González, the former Socialist Prime Minister of Spain, and Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg.
“Tony Blair is a man of the past and the United Kingdom is no longer any model,” said a French diplomat.
It's disingenuous of them to pretend that there are no EU Ambassadors or EU Embassies in place already.  Many of the provisions of the Lisbon Treaty are already in existence, being undertaken covertly so that once the treaty is formally ratified the project can be unleashed.

Ah, les Anglo-Saxons!  Constantly screwing up the German-France axis since 1939.  De Gaulle should have stuck to his principles and not allowed himself to be sweet-talked by Heath's entreaties.

The only correct British response should be: "Cry havoc!  And let slip the dogs of war.   Do your worst."

UPDATE: I forgot to link this: Jose Manuel Barroso has warned that there will be no EU Commissioner for the Czechs unless they ratify Lisbon. Any nation with an ounce of self-respect would tell the EU what to do with its threats, and I include Britain in that.  It's a disgrace that we have to look to Ireland, the Czech Republic, & Poland instead of having our own Referendum.

Lisbon Revisited

Saturday, 29 August 2009

Not long after when this Labour Government screwed us on a referendum, which was also when newly anointed Liberal Leader Nick Clegg followed suit and did the dirty on those who voted for them as well - The Lisbon Constitutional Treaty, was sent to the Lords. Unlike MP's, some Peers actually read it, and they produced a report on it's changes and implications.

Usefully they produced the below detailing what competencies would sit where in a post Lisbon world... They have been a little kind to the EU on a couple of scores, but never the less it is a useful visual guide and worth revisiting as Ireland's second referendum draws ever closer.

BROWN ON PROBATION AGAIN

Saturday, 25 July 2009

A BULLDOG CHEWING A WASP

Today has indeed been a good day and right now my schadenfreude gland is hyperactive and feeling very satisfied - this is an extract from an article in the Mail by
James Chapman.

Gordon Brown is being given until the autumn to turn Labour's fortunes around in the wake of another by-election disaster.

Though Labour had anticipated defeat, the scale of the loss led MPs to warn that it was clear the party was increasingly unelectable in England under Mr Brown.

Labour's vote crashed to 18 per cent, with 70 per cent of those who voted for the party at the 2005 election staying at home or switching to other parties.

Ministers now expect Labour MPs to reopen questions over Mr Brown's leadership later this year, unless the party's standing improves.

Backbenchers plan to urge Cabinet colleagues to talk him into leaving 'with honour and dignity', having rescued Britain's banking system from collapse, in favour of a more electable leader.

One senior MP told the Mail that Ed Balls, one of Mr Brown's oldest allies, would be approached and urged to intervene if Labour loses another by-election in Glasgow later this year.

Labour backbenchers said the by-election campaign had tested to destruction Mr Brown's mantra of 'Tory cuts versus Labour investment'.

Voters ignored Labour leaflets claiming the Conservatives would scrap free bus travel and TV licences for the elderly.

With demoralised MPs now on their summer break, there appears to be little appetite for an immediate attempt to oust Mr Brown.

But rebels believe he could be persuaded to step down voluntarily after conference in September if it is clearly in the party's interests.

David Cameron hailed the victory as 'historic'. The Tory leader said voters had rewarded the party for being honest about the need to rein in public spending.

He accused Labour of running an 'utterly despicable' campaign full of allegations about policies which were 'not true'.

I can't see Blinky doing the deed but hopefully someone in NuLieBore will actually have the balls to go through with it this time. I can't see Fondlebum wanting do it either as he would rather keep McSnot in place until his precious Lisbon Treaty is ratified without the irresistable pressure to call a general election after his removal.

Corrupt And Dirty EU

Tuesday, 21 July 2009

The EU: an iron fist in a velvet glove. An anthropomorphised EU would look like Peter Mandelson. It's corrupt, sleazy, unaccountable and undemocratic.

Marta Andreasen, who was elected as a Ukip MEP for South East England last month, has been blocked from becoming vice-chairman of the European Parliament's budgetary committe. They even broke convention on the allocation of committee posts by demanding a vote by secret ballot to do it.

Andreasen, the European Commission's former chief accountant, was fired in 2004 by Lord Kinnock after she publicly claimed there was a £172 million discrepancy between two sets of Brussels accounts. Kinnock accused her of "disloyalty and breach of trust" after she went to MEPs with her concerns.

Inge Graessle, a senior German Christian Democrat MEP, admitted that Andreasen had been opposed for the senior post because of her 'trouble-making' past. "The role she played in the past, what I feel was a certain scandalising of issues, is not really one we want endorsed by her becoming vice-chairman," she said.

"This is a message about how much they fear me. But I still know what I know and they will not stop me," Mrs Andreasen said.

Also, before I forget again, here's a link I've been meaning to post for ages:

Petition against the nomination of Tony Blair as President of the EU

Sarkozy is much more luke-warm towards Blair's candidacy than he once was and seems to prefer the Spanish Gonzalez these days but we should never underestimate the vaunting ambition of the Blair-Mandelson team. Machiavellian back-room deals are being struck all over Europe in anticipation of full ratification of the Lisbon Treaty and we still don't know which side of the fence Cameron will climb down from. It won't hurt to sign it - just in case.

Lisbon Treaty: Irish guarantees a fiction?

Thursday, 16 July 2009

We must do more than hope that the Irish will wake up to the con that they're being sold. We must help them to open their eyes. The EU will be throwing our money at a Yes vote, in the process, interfering with the democratic process in a sovereign state.

Let's look at what Gordon Brown said today.

Background:

About 48 minutes into the HoC Liaison Committee’s deliberations (today, from 10:00 to 12:32), Gordon Brown was asked whether Parliament would have to vote again on a protocol that attaches to the Lisbon Treaty, regarding Ireland’s ‘guarantees’.

Brown said that it would, but that whether or not the protocol was itself ratified, the Lisbon Treaty would still be ratified, if all member states did so in their respective countries.

The protocol would be attached to the next accession treaty.

Questions:

Given that the Lisbon Treaty is self-amending, requiring no agreement from member states to ratify any further treaties or amendments to current treaties, what guarantee is there that the Irish ‘guarantee’ protocol will actually be implemented?

What are Ireland’s options if, post-Lisbon Treaty ratification, the next accession treaty does not implement the ‘guarantee’ protocol?

Aren’t the Irish being asked to take on trust that this ‘guarantee’ protocol will be incorporated, as agreed with Ireland?

Are any sceptics asking these questions and ensuring that the Irish understand the implications of the pile of sh*t they are being sold?
